Rosarium Health, a company focused on supporting aging in place, announced a new partnership with Anthem Medi-Cal to expand access to home modification services for eligible members.

This collaboration allows Rosarium Health to perform in-home assessments for patients at risk of falls. Occupational and physical therapists conduct these evaluations, identifying safety issues related to both the individual’s health and their living environment.

Based on the assessment results, Rosarium Health installs modifications like ramps and stair lifts. California’s Medi-Cal program covers these changes, typically up to a $7,500 lifetime limit per member.

Rosarium Health manages the entire process, from documentation and benefit authorization to project completion, including quality checks and contractor payments. This wide-ranging approach simplifies access to essential safety improvements for seniors and at-risk individuals.

The partnership highlights the increasing need for home-based care as the U.S. population ages. California faces unique challenges, with more residents over 65 than under 18, according to Cameron Carter, founder and CEO of Rosarium Health.

“One thing about California is that it is one of the newer states that have kind of gone over the age acuity cliff in that there’s more individuals over 65 than under 18 in the state of California,” Carter said in an interview. He noted that the partnership provides Anthem with deeper insights into its patients’ living conditions.

Expansion Across Key Regions

The Anthem partnership extends Rosarium Health’s reach across Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Fresno, and Kern counties. They already collaborate with several California insurers, including Health Net, Central California Alliance for Health, CalViva, and Community Health Plan of Imperial Valley.

To assess impact, Rosarium Health will monitor emergency room visits, hospital stays, overall care costs, and satisfaction among members and caregivers, as Carter mentioned. These metrics will determine if home modifications reduce hospitalizations and enhance quality of life.

Carter aims to make home modification benefits as standard as dental or vision coverage. “We feel like modifying your home should be as accessible as [possible]. So that’s our north star, to make sure we can do it across any population that exists. … We want to make sure everyone has access to this benefit, just like if they wanted to go to the gym or if they wanted glasses, and we want to make sure that reality is consistent from coast to coast,” he said.
